University of Houston–Clear Lake’s Health and Human Performance Institute (HHPI) partnered with KBR to help lead the 2026 Spaceflight Human Optimization and Performance (SHOP) summit, bringing together experts focused on the future of human spaceflight and astronaut health.

The summit explored how researchers are addressing the physical and mental challenges of long-term space travel, while also uncovering discoveries that may improve health and performance here on Earth. UHCL continues to play an important role in advancing interdisciplinary research and preparing students for careers connected to NASA and the growing space industry.

The Center for Career Development invites UHCL alumni to host a student for a short job shadow experience this summer. By offering a behind-the-scenes look at your profession, you can help students explore career paths and gain real-world insight.
